The belgian bass TIJL FAVEYTS studied at the Conservatory in Brussels and at the University of Music in Vienna with Prof. Ralf Döring and Prof. Kmsg. Robert Holl. In June 2004 he obtained the Magister-degree with distinction.
After earning first prizes and interpretation prizes at international singing competitions, he started his carreer in 2004 in Toronto with the role of Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte). From 2005 on he became a member of the Theater Sankt Gallen where he sung amongs others, the roles of Doktor (Wozzeck), Don Basilio (Barbiere di Siviglia), Oroveso (Norma), Raimondo (Lucia di Lammermoor) and Gremin (Eugin Onegin).
He made guest appearances in Austria with the roles of Alfonso (Cosi fan tutte), Simone (Gianni Schicchi), Sparafucile (Rigoletto), Zuniga (Carmen) and Don Pasquale (Don Pasquale), at the Theater Hof and the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern as Eremit (Der Freischütz), at the Vlaamse Opera (Don Giovanni, Rape of Lucretia, Samson et Dalila), at the Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg and the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence as Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), at the Wiener Festwochen (Die Zauberflöte, Jakob Lenz, Wozzeck, Rigoletto), at the Theater an der Wien (Die Zauberflöte), at the Theater La Monnaie in Brussels (Forza del destino), at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam (Des Esels Schatten) at the Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam (la fanciulla del West), at the Staatsoper Stuttgart (Don Giovanni) and at the Israeli Opera Tel Aviv as Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte).
He worked with conductors as Jiri Kout, Kazushi Ono, Fabio Luisi, Daniel Harding, Carlo Rizzi, Antonino Fogliani, Antonello Allemandi, David Stern, Andreas Spering und Carlo Franci.
Tijl Faveyts is also a regulary guest on concertstages where he performed Die Matthäuspassion, die Johannespassion, The Messiah from Händel and Die Jahreszeiten from Haydn (Musikverein Vienna) as well as die Winterreise from Schubert. This season he is reinvited at the Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam as Pfleger des Orest (Elektra) and Voce (Idomeneo) and at the Theater La Monnaie in Brussels as 1. Soldat (Salome). In St. Gallen he will be heard as Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Comte des Grieux (Manon) and as Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte). For the saison 2012-2013 he has already invitations for the operahouses in Amsterdam, Brussels and Moscow.
